Costa Rica National Parks

Rincón de la Vieja is one of the country's most dinamically active volcanoes, known for its geothermal marvels. Along the park's Las Pailas sector, visitors can witness boiling mud pots (fumarolas), steaming sulfur vents, and mini-geysers constantly releasing heat and gas from the earth.

Despite its rugged volcanic terrain, the national park is highly accessible, located just 25 kilometers northeast of Liberia. The surrounding region has grown into a premier eco-adventure center. For a day trip you can easily pair a park visit with zip-lining, whitewater tubing, horseback riding, or relaxing in natural volcanic hot springs and mud baths.

The surrounding tropical dry forest canopy stays alive with wildlife. Hikers frequently spot howler monkeys, white-faced capuchins monkeys, and coatis, alongside vibrant birdlife like the Turquoise-browed Motmot, Crested Guan, Emerald Toucanet, and various species of hummingbirds flitting through the trees.
