Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is located on the southeastern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, within the Limón Province. It sits in the Talamanca canton, roughly 54 kilometers (34 miles) south of the provincial capital city of Limón and just north of the Panamanian border. If you are traveling from San José, is approximately 215 kilometers (133 miles) east of the capital. The drive takes between 4.5 to 5.5 hours, passing through the mountains of Braulio Carrillo National Park and heading down highway 32 before cutting south along the scenic coastal road.
