Montezuma Costa Rica is on the furthest tip of the Nicoya Peninsula where the jungle mountains touch the Pacific shore. Montezuma is a picturesque small village known for its bohemian atmosphere. Things to do in Montezuma

Montezuma Waterfall
The Montezuma Waterfall is one of the most popular Nicoya Peninsula attractions for visitors. You can hike along a stream past a couple of smaller falls before coming to the main water cascade.

Montezuma Beach
Montezuma Beach is a large sandy beach a few steps north of the village center. It is great for sunbathing and swimming but be careful as the sea bottom drops steeply and the surf is sometimes rough.

Playa Grande
3 km out of Montezuma, you arrive at Playa Grande whose long expanse of white-sand beach is one of Montezuma’s best surf spots. Behind Playa Grande the 156 hectares of the Romelia Wildlife Refuge protects flora and fauna. This nature reserve may not be entered.

Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve
The Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve of Costa Rica is part of the Tempisque Conservation Area in the province of Puntarenas, covering an area of 3,140 acres terrestrial and 4,420 acres marine on the southern tip of the Nicoya. This seabird sanctuary is popular for birdwatching. Around 240 bird species have been recorded in Cabo Blanco, along with several mammals. You might spot armadillos, anteaters, monkeys and coatis.

Curu Wildlife Refuge
The area has abundant wildlife and hosts one of the most beautiful beaches and protected bays on the Peninsula. It offers easy access to seeing some of the most sought-after species such as White-faced Monkeys, Spider Monkeys, Scarlet Macaws, White-tailed Deer, Collared Peccary, Coati, Raccoons, Coyotes, Iguanas, and hundreds of species of tropical and migratory birds. Curú is an example of a successful sustainable development program. It is managed sustainably to produce a profit and local employment while also protecting its threatened and endangered forested habitats such as mangroves, tropical moist and dry forests, and coral reefs.

Tortuga Island Snorkeling Tour
A day trip to this wonderful island is one of the most popular things to do in Montezuma. The small island is uninhabited and are characterized by clear turquoise water, white sand beaches, lush vegetation and volcanic reefs. You get to observe magnificent marine life during the multiple snorkeling sessions near Tortuga Islands.

Montezuma is a small town in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. It is located almost 5 hours away driving (172 kms /107 miles) west from the San Jose  International Airport, near the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, southwest of Paquera.
